Spaying or neutering your german shepherd

Why Spay and Neuter?

90% of the dogs in rescue or shelters, without exception, are the result of an unwise and irresponsible breeding, whether planned or accidental. There are many health risks associated with dogs being unspayed/unneutered. We would love to see the day when shelters are empty.

Please understand that millions of unwanted dogs and cats are killed in shelters every year because no one wants them. If you worked at a shelter or in rescue for one day you would never, ever consider letting your animals reproduce. These animals that are killed in shelters are unwanted puppies and kittens, beautiful animals, some purebred, some just wonderful mixes. We have seen first hand the result of the infections and cancer that riddle animals who were not altered in time, in addition to urinary tract problems and behavior issues.

Please, please get all of your animals spayed or neutered and help to change this sad situation. Even if you don't intend to breed your male dog, please get him neutered for the sake of his health, and the easier-to-live-with pet he will almost certainly become.

Check with your veterinarian about the benefit of neutering your dog and of spaying female dogs-I'm sure you will reconsider leaving him intact, and also your preference for an unspayed companion for him.
